Common Mental Health Struggles and Symptoms
Many of our individual therapy clients are successful and dynamic professionals, parents, and graduate students who find themselves feeling overwhelmed in the midst of their busy and demanding schedules. Experiences of anxiety, depression, and stress are surprisingly common. Symptoms can include irritability, racing thoughts, trouble sleeping, and difficulty concentrating. Situational stressors are often present - a close relationship is strained, work is not fulfilling, or there is something missing socially. When confronted with such symptoms and stressors, many individuals try different things on their own to find relief and restore a sense of well being. If you aren’t experiencing improvement and find yourself struggling with everyday life, discussing your situation with a therapist might be a good option for you.

For couples, finding new ways to increase intimacy and reduce conflict is beneficial at any stage of a relationship. Enhancing the connection with your partner can be one of the most rewarding experiences in life. We enjoy working with couples to make the most of each relationship’s unique journey. We understand that each relationship is different. We take the time to get to know you and your partner and work with both partners equally on identifying ways to achieve greater relationship satisfaction.

Personalized Individual and Couples Therapy
Individuals
We understand that each individual is unique, circumstances vary from person-to-person, and that some strategies will work better for some and not others. At Mile High Psychology, our years of clinical experience are applied to each client in a personalized way. We will work with you to find strategies and solutions that make a difference for you. As licensed psychologists, we most commonly use the following evidence-based methods: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Insight-Oriented Therapy, and Mindfulness Techniques.
You can read more about these approaches on our Individual Therapy page.
Couples
Our couples counseling begins with a thoughtful discussion and assessment of current relationship issues. From there, we work with you to better understand and recognize any negative patterns of interaction that create strain in your relationship. Such insights set the stage for further discussion and more positive interactions as you find ways to re-connect and discover fresh fixes to old issues. We use a personalized approach to couples counseling that addresses the particular concerns and issues of our couples.

Mental Health Evaluations
When mental health issues are seriously affecting everyday life and impacting social, academic, or work performance, undergoing a mental health assessment can be an effective way to gain insight and learn about treatment recommendations. Mental health evaluations are used to gather important information about an individual’s psychological and cognitive functioning. When you have a mental health evaluation, you meet with a psychologist who performs the assessment and provides a detailed feedback session and written report. The results of mental health evaluations can lead to new insights into behavioral, cognitive, and emotional functioning and can be helpful in deciding on treatment options.

Psychological Assessments
The psychological assessment services at Mile High Psychology are designed to better understand distressing emotions or behavioral problems that seem to be associated with a mental health issue. If you or someone you care for is prone to mood swings, interpersonal problems, aggressive reactions, or impulsive behavior, a psychological evaluation done by one of our Denver therapists can foster greater understanding and identify suitable treatment recommendations. Through the assessment process, we will evaluate for possible contributing factors, such as Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Mood Disorders (Depression or Bipolar), Psychotic Disorders (Schizophrenia), as well as life stressors that might be significantly affecting mood and behavior.

Neuropsychological Assessments
If memory problems, attention problems, drastic personality changes, or difficulty solving problems arise and significantly hinder an individual’s ability to function in work, relationships, or daily living, undergoing a neuropsychological assessment can be helpful. Mile High Psychology’s neuropsychological evaluations can assess for a wide range of brain-behavior conditions, such as Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), dementia (Alzheimer’s disease), neurologic conditions (Parkinson’s, MS, Stroke), and Concussions and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
Forensic Psychology Services for Legal Proceedings
At times, an individual’s psychological or cognitive state needs to be evaluated in conjunction with legal proceedings. We provide forensic psychology services to assist with case conceptualization, diagnosis, and treatment planning for case workers, probation officers, and attorneys. Our forensic psychology evaluations are used for case management, dependency and neglect cases, competency (criminal), competency (civil), and mental status (at time of offense), including NGRI cases.
